Decoration Ideas for a Teen Party

Decoration Ideas for a Teen Party

Decorating for a teenager's birthday party calls for a considerable amount of thought before diving into the decor. Take your teen's personality into consideration when planning the decorations and include items that are of interest to her. When you're finished, if you've done the job right, your party decorations may just turn out to be your teen's favorite gift of all. Does this Spark an idea?

Memory Lane

Depending on your teenager's temperament, he may enjoy decorations that are all about him. Make a collage of photos dating from his first pictures to his present age. Use sports, academic and community awards as the centerpiece on the food table. Add a few of his favorite childhood toys to the gift table. You can also make a banner from photocopied pictures of birthdays past. Along with all of the party decor that highlights blasts from the past and present-day activities, include a peek into the future. On an accent wall, hang a graduation cap, college jersey (if he has his eye on a particular college), occupational uniform, and, finally, an old fedora for his retirement years. Add a sign that explains the outfits and includes wishes for many, many more birthdays.

Decade Theme

Make a peace sign garland with poster board cutouts.

While your older teenager may not appreciate a 50s party, those groovy 70s or colorful 80s memorabilia may well suit her taste. For a 70s party, make a garland from peace signs you fashion yourself from colored poster board. Place a fondue maker on the snack table that does double duty as a tasty treat maker and conversation piece. Use scrunchies for an 80s garland. Use Twist-a-Beads in place of bows or tack them around tables to complement your neon 80s decor.

Rocker Look

Decorate your teen's birthday party with items any young rocker would love. Stand inflatable guitars in the corners of the various rooms that can be used later in an "air" guitar contest. Use old CDs in place of traditional banners. Hang posters of your teenager's favorite rock bands in the entryway. Decorate the birthday cake to look like a keyboard with neon stripes across the top. Complete the rocker look with stage lights, which you can rent from your local party rental store.
