How to Make Furniture With Wine Boxes

How to Make Furniture With Wine Boxes

An empty wine crate can be made into any number of home furnishings from bookcases to coffee tables. Most wine crates are solidly constructed of pine or cedar wood making them perfect for the frugal and imaginative do-it-yourselfer. The labels impressed or burned into the wood can add a conversational dimension to your wine crate furniture. Follow the steps below to make wine crate display cases. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Measure the length and width of the interior sides and bottom of the wine crates that you want to cover with the wallpaper. Add inch extra to all measurements.

    2

Draw the measurements you have taken on the backside of the wallpaper. You should end up with five rectangles, each side having an extra inch of length or width. Draw a dash on each corner of all five rectangles at the inch overage mark. These marks should form a little "V" shape at each corner.

    3

Cut each corner of each rectangle to the inch mark on both the length and the width sides. This should should create a V-shaped notch at each corner. Fold the wallpaper to the inside along the inch allowance to give the wallpaper edges a finished appearance.

    4

Spray the adhesive onto the interior surfaces of the wine crate. Position each piece of wallpaper one after another onto each of the four interior sides and press and smooth gently into place. Position and press the back/bottom piece last and smooth out any ripples.

    5

Decide whether you wish to hang the display boxes sideways or lengthwise then position the saw-tooth picture hanger near the edge that you want to hang it from and nail into place with the included nails. Mark the position you want to hang the wine crate display box on the wall. Nail a sturdy, 2-inch nail into the wall and hang the display box.
