Because a large portion of a Christmas tea party will be spent sitting at a table while sipping tea and munching on goodies, it makes sense to put some thought into your centerpieces. Consider whether you want large or small, casual or elegant centerpieces. Using tea-themed items, such as tea pots, for your centerpieces is always an appropriate idea for a tea party. Does this Spark an idea?
Wreath
Select an evergreen or holly wreath from the craft store for your centerpieces. Lay the wreath down on the table and place a large hurricane glass inside it. Choose a pillar candle to go inside the hurricane glass. Go with a candle that is either red, green, silver or gold, depending on the shades used in the rest of your decorations. Decorate the wreath with ribbon, small pine cones or holly berries.
Ornaments
You can easily create this Christmas tea party centerpiece by yourself. Choose a large glass bowl. Try to find one in a color that you are using prominently in your decorations. In the base of the bowl, place a strand of battery-powered miniature white Christmas lights. On top of the lights, fill the bowl with lots of glass ornaments. Choose all different colors, but make sure the ornaments are glass so that the white lights will shine up through them. Place a green garland on the table surrounding the bowl.
Christmas Trees
Use fake Christmas trees as the centerpieces on your tables. You can choose miniature Christmas trees that are only a few inches tall, or go with a tree that is several feet tall. The taller the tree, the more dramatic the centerpiece will be. This idea is best for a round table, as a Christmas tree can be a bit wide at the bottom. Put the tree on the table and surround its base with a garland or a fabric in red, green, gold or silver. Because you are hosting a Christmas tea party, use miniature tea cups as ornaments. Simply place the tea cup's handle on the Christmas tree branches. You can find miniature tea cups in stores or online. Plastic cups would be better for smaller trees as they are more lightweight.
Food
Use your food as the centerpiece for your tea party. Choose serving stands that have several levels and place them on the center of each table. Fill the serving stands with colorful Christmas treats, such as cupcakes, decorated sugar cookies or Christmas candy. This centerpiece won't just be pleasing to the eye, but your guests will find it tasty as well.
