How to Set Up Ideas for Wedding Reception Tables

How to Set Up Ideas for Wedding Reception Tables

Planning a wedding can quickly become stressful. Because the tables are often the focal point for the wedding reception, deciding how to set them up can be a frustrating task. Although it can be daunting with the wide variety of flowers and other centerpiece options available, the task of setting up the perfect wedding reception tables can be accomplished.

Instructions

Dressing the Table

    1

Decorate in two or three colors that coordinate well together. For instance, shades of blue and yellow are often used in conjunction. To make the task more straightforward, use the same colors for the reception and wedding.

    2

Place a tablecloth over each table. For a blue and yellow wedding, you may choose to cloth the tables with pale yellow to create a warm glow.

    3

Choose a table runner that complements the tablecloth. For square tables, place one table runner down the length of the table. For round tables, place two table runners in opposite directions, crossing in the middle.

    4

Select chair covers to coordinate with the tablecloth or runner, if desired. Use a large piece of cloth in the other color to tie a ribbon around each chair.

Centerpieces

    5

Place flowers in glass vases. For a more elaborate look, choose a large vase and have a florist design a tall bouquet. For a minimalist look, place a line of short, clear glass vases along the center of the table runner. Place flowers in the signature wedding colors in each vase. Roses, gerber daisies, hydrangeas and peonies are popular and come in a variety of colors.

    6

Purchase large clear glass bowls and place them on the tables.

    7

Fill each bowl approximately halfway with water and stir in blue food coloring.

    8

Suspend floating candles in each bowl. Have someone light each candle shortly before guests arrive.

Place Setting

    9

Set each place with your selected dishes, flatware and stemware. The reception venue may have these items available to rent for an additional fee or may include them in the rental charges. Set the table as necessary for each guest to sit and eat comfortably.

    10

Lay a folded cloth napkin on each place setting. If the affair will feature a full dinner, include a menu on top of the place setting.

    11

Situate a place card with the name of each guest at the seat. Not only will this help the guest find his seat, but will also add color to the table.

    12

Place the favors for each guest at the seat. Favors may include tubes of bubbles, small bags of candy, drink huggers and a wide variety of other options.
